Joe Budden and Busta Rhymes Beef

The pilot episode for DOPE Radio

A tweet with the Top 50 rappers of all time went viral…….. nothing like a good hip hop debate…

This is the viral list that set it off.

Follow D.O.P.E on twitter (finally made one for the blog).

Now the hip hop world has already torn into to this list for a multitude of reasons but the biggest critique that was trending on twitter was Jersey's own Joe Budden.

Now, full disclosure, Budden is in my personal Top 5 favorite rappers. Which, in no order, would be 2pac, Jay Z, Eminem, Tech N9ne and Joe.  However just for fun I made my own Top 50 all time list (see below), and as you can see, Joe is not in the top five all time.

With that being said, I believe Budden is underrated as an MC since so many "hip hop heads" thought it was ridiculous someone could include him in their Top 5.

Most casual fans only know Joe from Pump it Up or crappy reality tv, possibly COMPLEX, or his "beef" with Drake, and his own podcast; but not so much for his music and that is a damn shame.

His self-titled debut album has some bangers on it, yeah yeah I know Pump-pump-pump-it-up …but what about Fire ft Busta Rhymes, Focus, Calm Down, Walk With Me and 10 Minutes. If you do not know the other tracks, and you call yourself a hip hop head you are doing yourself a disservice.

Did you know that the remix to Pump it Up, started the long, subliminal, beef between Joe and Jay-Z? Story supposedly goes Joe (who was a Def Jam artist) wanted his idol/favorite rapper Hova on the remix, Hov said some insane price, Joe declined, Hova dropped a freestyle over the beat anyway, Joe went back and added a verse. It does not take a genius to realize the subliminals one this track.

Besides his Def Jam debut album, Joe killed it on the mixtapes, from his early  days with DJ Clue to his, classic (yeah I fucking said classic) Mood Muzik series. There are four Mood Muzik mixtapes/albums and they are fucking awesome.

The first Mood Muzik, "The Worst of Joe Budden" dropped in the end of 2003, after his commercial album and many hip hop heads (including myself) enjoyed it more than the album. He was introspective, bitter about his label situation and disillusioned because of the aforementioned Jay-Z incident.

Mood Muzik II dropped in December of 2005, many had already labeled Joe a one-hit wonder and wrote him off. His second album,The Growth, had been shelved, and like many hip hop albums it had  a release date on the 32nd of Neverary.

Mood Muzik 2 proved to many that he was not made for radio singles but for bars.

Story tellin……

Mood Muzik III , unlike the first two installments was considered an actual album. Complete with a Jay Z diss, a dope cyph track with the A-Team and Fab, and what I believe is arguably his best track, All of Me.

Family Reunion from the Desert Storm days…

All of Me.

These projects are why he is in my personal top 5… not to mention his other albums. Albums like Halfway House which have this track.

Padded Room  which has his vicious response to the late Prodigy of Mobb Deep.

Escape Route had his response (to the Wu and the world) after he set the internet on fire when he proclaimed he was better (at that time) than legend Method Man because of a hip hop march madness style tournament in VIBE.

Inspectah Deck dissed Joe, and rumor has it that Rae and Ghost were looking for Joey out in Cali but his House Gang bro, Crooked I aka KXNG Crooked, made sure that ended along with the beef.

And stop acting like yall don't know about Slaughterhouse.

Here is my Top 50 GOATS of Hip Hop. (disclaimer this list, for the most part, can change by the hour, lists like these are dumb fun)
